Located on the Passeig de Gracia, just north of the Avinguda Diagonal in the centre of Barcelona. The Cine Casablanca opened on 13th December 1980 with two screens, one seating 139, the other seating 178. The opening films were the David Lynch film "Eraserhead" and Joan Crawford in "Johnny Guitar".
The cinema was named Casablanca in homage to the 1942 Michael Curtiz film "Casablanca" which starred Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
In recent years the name ‘Kaplan’ has been added, so as to differentiate it from other Casablanca cinemas operated by the owners. It screened foreign and independent films, all prints in their original versions, with Spanish sub-titles.
It was closed in 2011.

The most uncomfortable theatre i’ve been in. Only went twice in my 12 years here.
Actually closed since 2011, I hope whoever takes it over changes the seating. Programming was very eclectic though.
