The Safari 1 & 2 opened on December 28, 1972. The 3rd screen was added on December 19, 1990, and screens 4-7 on August 26, 1988. The theatre closed in October 2020. It was taken over by Cinema Entertainment Corporation on May 1, 1986, and later by Marcus. Ads posted.
The Marcus Safari 7 Cinema closed March 17, 2020 along with the rest of the Marcus' locations for the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtually every discount, sub-run theatre was closed permanently in the United States during the pandemic due to both lack of product and very uncertain marketplace for second-run theaters in a streaming world. Marcus dropped the cinema from its webpage and disconnected its telephone permanently closing the theater in October of 2020 followed by an announcement that the theatre was sold to Ignite Church.
It closed as the the Marcus Safari 7 Cinema.
Currently called the Marcus Safari Value Cinema.
A few pictures of the Safari 1&2 illustrate this article in Boxoffice, June 30, 1975. The Safari had 850 seats, divided 550 and 300. Originally operated by the State Theatre Company, the Safari was the first new hardtop built in Moorhead in 30 years. The African safari theme was the notion of State Theatres head Dan Peterson, and the design was carried out by decorator Jerry Arness. Boxoffice did not give the name of the architect.
I think those are second run films on the theater site, i.e. Alvin & the Chipmunks. The function should be changed accordingly.
