Revisit Denver posted an article about the Federal’s restoration, noting that it opened in 1923. Tha article was mostly about Louis A. Siener, the swindler responsible for its construction.

I saw The Thing with Kurt Russell here in 1982 – by then, the Federal was a dark, dank dollar-house venue.
I used to go to the Federal Theater in the 80s. It had reopened as a second run theater to try to compete with the newly opening discount theaters in the Denver area.
The first movie I remember seeing there was Tron toward the end of summer in 1982. The last movie I remember seeing there was Pretty in Pink in the spring of 1986.
In contrast to the article at Westword linked earlier, I have no recollection of the Federal showing porn. The neighborhood seems like it would have been unsuited to such a theater.
