The 7-screen Village Carlisle was built for and operated by the Australian exhibitor Village Roadshow Cinemas, later known as Warner Village Theatres in the UK. The cinemas were built at the rear of a former Co-op building in 1999, and it opened as the Village on 30th June 2000. Seating capacities in the screens range from 340, down to 148.
By 2007, it had been re-named Vue.

I saw THE HOUSEMAID in Screen 6.
A large auditorium with an impressive screen. However large as it was, it did look rather odd, not 1.85 Flat but not 2.39 Scope either, somewhere in between, I would say about 2.20.
As the adverts started my suspicions were confirmed as there were only thin black bars on either side of the picture. I sat wondering what would happen when the feature started.
When it did, a perfect 2.39 image appeared. To get this small black bars were present top and bottom.
What a strange arrangement, the screen masking was not set for either Flat or Scope films. I presume this is a hangover from the 35mm days where I recall some other Vue cinemas had both top and side movable masking to convert from a Flat image to a Scope one. Surely it would not take much effort to fit proper Scope masking for the screen now.
On leaving I popped my head around the other two auditoria on that level, Screens 5 and 7, and they both seemed to be proper full Scope.
All in all, a very pleasant cinema to watch films in, big screens, very dark during the film itself. Good
