Opened with two cartoons(not named), and “wIchita” and “The pride of Blue grass”.
This opened on October 28th, 1955. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
Having lived here in Oakland Park (north Lauderdale) since 1955, I can vividly recall occasional trips with my family (and later into the 1970’s with car-fulls of my best friends) to the classic ‘Davie Boulevard Drive-In’ theater (although, the ‘Federal’ and ‘North Andrews’ Drive-Ins were a bit closer to my area)! I remember it being a very clean and well-maintained theater … it even had an outdoor seating area next to the concession stand (similar to that of the ‘North Andrews Drive-In’). During the early 1970' the theater (specifically) would host all-night “Dusk-to-Dawn Horror-thons” and “Sci-Fi” features on most weekends … we had a blast! I have been searching the web for ANY images of this theater, but have found absolutely NOTHING of importance. PLEASE, if knows of, or has any old photos to share … I am sure that the original resident fans and other drive-in theater enthusiasts nationwide would LOVE enjoying and sharing those images. These photographs would be of great historical reference. Please consider ~ Thanks!
Thank you!
I uploaded the Aerial photo in the photo page for this theatre.
This was already open in 1955.
O.K.
Absolutely.
ChasSmith – can I have your contact info? I would like to ask you a few questions about this drive-in…. – thanks – Candace
3 BIG ACTION BOMBS
Did “BOMBS” have a different meaning in the early sixties?
Here’s an ad from late November 1963:

A couple of corrections can be made here:
The name was Davie Boulevard Drive-In, and it was in Fort Lauderdale, not Davie. An early-1960s city directory listed it at 3200 Davie Blvd. — not 3100 — which looks correct on the maps and agrees with my own knowledge of the large block it took up. It was replaced by the shopping center seen there now.
We lived about five minutes away, and I have a number of very nice memories of attending this neighborhood drive-in, both with my family and on my own dates, in the early-mid-1960s.
