The State Theatre opened on March 3, 1939. It continued to operated at least into the 1960’s.

The STATE THEATRE in STATESVILLE, N.C., opened in 1940 and closed April 23, 1961. The final feature shown was THE MILLIONAIRESS starring Sophia Loren and Peter Sellers.

Scroll downtown and it is south of Woolworth’s. You can also see where the Playhouse was located.
The postcard lostmemory linked to shows that the State Theatre’s entrance was in the narrow building between what is now the Bank of Granite, 207 S. Center Street, and the City Center Building, 211 S. Center Street. The theater’s address must have been 209 S. Center Street, not N. Center Street.
