- Oct 22, 2014 — Showplace closes its doors
The 450-seat Clinton Theatre was opened on December 25, 1939. It was closed in the late-1960’s and converted into a church. It suffered internally by a major fire in May 1985.
In March 1987 it was purchased by Pete Gall of Loveland, OH and was transformed into a 3-screen movie theatre operating with 3-screens, each seating 110-seats. It reopened as the Blanchester Showplace Theater on June 12, 1987 with Eddie Deezen in “Million Dollar Mystery”, Jim Varney in “Ernest Goes to Camp” & Paul Hogan in “Crocodile Dundee”. It was closed in October 2014 due to the cost of converting to digital projection. It had reopened by 2019, renamed Blanchester Movie Theater. It was closed in December 2021. It reopened in 2022, but closed in September 2022. It had reopened again by February 2023, but with only 2-screens operating.

Looks like they reopened again in November 2022, and as of this post, are still operating.
Screen count is down to 2 though.
In the 80s, during its three-screen incarnation, it was run by Pete Gall, former owner of the Guild in Cincinnati, the former Cinema Malibu in Hamilton, and the Franklin in Franklin, and the Ludlow in Ludlow KY.
The Clinton Theatre opened its doors on Christmas Day 1939 with 450 seats, but closed in the late-1960s and was converted into a church. Unfortunately, the interior suffered major damage from a fire in May 1985, but the exterior didn’t receive any damage due to its steel and concrete material.
In March 1987, developer Pete Gall of Loveland, Ohio, announced that he’ll convert the former church back to a movie theater with three 110-seat screens. Finally on June 12, 1987, the Blanchester Showplace Cinemas opened its doors at the former Clinton Theatre site, launching with “Million Dollar Mystery”, “Ernest Goes To Camp” and “Crocodile Dundee” in screen order.
