News About This Theater
- Mar 18, 2004 — Colonial Theatre Gets a Gusset
The Colonial Theater dates back to 1919 when it opened as a vaudeville house. In 1929, it became the Paramount Theatre when it was taken over by Paramount Pictures' Publix chain. Later on, Fox Intermountain Theatres operated it.
After it closed in the late-1980’s, the building was donated to the Idaho Falls Arts Council who completed a $4.2 million restoration in 1997. The Colonial Theater has returned to its original name, and with two adjoining buildings, it is now part of the Willard Arts Center which contains three art galleries.

I managed this theater from 1981 until about 1985. Back then it was the Mann Paramount Theatre. We ran major release movies and had Saturday morning kids shows. Saturday midnight showing was Rocky Horror Picture Show. Spent many hours fixing up the stage lighting and back drops. Eventually held a few concerts and talent shows for the kids. Most memorable was the “Annie” look-a-like talent contest. It was a great old theater. I’m glad to see that it’s been restored to it’s former glory.
According to the website, function should also include: Films, classic.
