This opened on March 30th, 1908 according to the ad in the newspaper. Ad in photo section.
The Orpheum opened on April 2, 1908. This item about the event is from the April 4 issue of Variety:
Gus Sun was a former juggler, vaudevillian, and minstrel who entered the theater business in 1904,opening a small vaudeville and picture house in Springfield, Ohio. By 1909 he had a circuit of a dozen theaters and booked dozens of other houses through the booking agency he founded in 1906.I visited the building this weekend. It seems the building has been divided up for different leasees. Unfortunately the actual theater space was leased separately and I was unable to check it out. I’m curious to see how much of the theater still exists or if that room was gutted into a mere storage room. Depending on its condition, it’s the last standing theater in downtown Zanesville.
Was never home of Main Office Supply ! Prior to 1962 it was used by Morrison Pontiac Cadilac and the the Business Equipment Company until 2009.
It was the home of Main Office Supply for many years.
The address of the Orpheum was 61 N. Fourth Street, according to a 1952 Zanesville newspaper article. The building is still standing, and was to have been auctioned off this month according to an article in the September 6, 2010, issue of the Zanesville Times Recorder.
