Part of General Cinema’s aggressive South Florida expansion in the late-1980’s, the Deerfield Mall 8 opened January 27, 1989 and followed the chain’s standard blueprint of the time: predominantly red-and-black-decor, with stereo surround sound in most auditoriums.

Closed suddenly in 2000 along with GCC’s other Florida locations, the theater sat idle for several years until Sunrise Cinemas assumed management. In 2010, it was operated by Frank Theatres. On January 1, 2015 it was taken over by Cinepolis and was renamed Cinepolis Deerfield Beach.

Extensive lobby remodeling, upgraded seating, and expanded food/beverage menus were introduced toward the end of Sunrise Cinemas' management.

The preopening celebration started on January 20th, 1989 and official opening on the 27th. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
