The Sky-Vu opened on August 20, 1950 with Randolph Scott in “Fighting Men of the Plains” with no extra short subjects. It features the original installations of RCA speakers and a 40x50 screen.
The Sky Vu Drive-In was notable for a September 17, 1957 shooting of a Dallas man who was visiting the area being shot in the chest by another man simply named as Connor.

The drive-in sat on HWY 270 just east of McAlester on the north side. A 1955 aerial shows the drive-in operational when it was the Sky Vu.
By 1980, the drive-in had been demolished. Today, Discount Steel LLC sits on the property with no trace of the drive-in remaining save for its general outline and entrance/exit road.

The Sky Vu was renamed the Carlton in March 1959. This listing should be merged into the Carlton Drive-In listing, as it was called the Sky Vu from 1950-59, and the Carlton from 1959 until its closing in the early 1980s.
McAlester was the home to the Skyview Drive in. In the late 50’s it held 385 cars and was owned by J.D. Lankister. McAlester also had the HIWAY 270 DRIVE IN and it parked 400 cars owned by Robb& Rowley.
