Disney Theater ... Northport Alabama 1948

The Disney Theater was a small, stand alone neighborhood theater. An overhang sheltered the entrance and had "Disney" spelled out on its front. Although the theater survived a severe flood from the Black Warrior River in 1948, it closed in the early-1950’s.

A view from 1948 of the Disney Theater in the Black Warrior river flood. A double feature, “My Pal Trigger” with Roy Rogers and “Fort Apache” with John Wayne had been the current movie features.

The building still stands (April 2018) and the you can clearly discern the theater’s facade, although it’s missing the marquee. Currently, it houses a business called “Polished on Main.” There have been no floods since a levee was built in the 1990s.
