October 6th, 1967 Grand opening ad in photo section.
this theatre reminded me of Larry’s favorite theatre The FOX SKYLINE sharp parks blvd in San Bruno, After NGC, Mann Closed it David Cooper ran it as a dollar theatre until he closed it and GCC tore it down, I liked the concession stand in the round.
I wish had some kind of evidence to prove this, but I swear I saw a double feature of “Star Wars” and “Up In Smoke” at this theatre. My father would take my on business trips every summer to the Bay Area and one of the stops was always Fremont. Usually it was a G-Rated film that was playing. The auditorium was packed with children watching Luke Skywalker, and then Cheech and Chong. I couldn’t have been more than 12 years old.
The official groundbreaking for the 850 seat Fox Fremont Theatre was announced in the April 3, 1967, issue of Boxoffice Magazine. The architect was Gale Santocono.
A Petco now sits here.
Another great theater from my childhood. Saw “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea” and “Journey To The Center Of The Earth” at the Fox Fremont.
Update on the Naz 8 Cinemas mentioned above—Their operation has been moved to a smaller theater about 4 blocks away. The 8-screen theater where the Fox once sat is now closed & the operators of the Hub shopping center where it is located at plan to put retail in its place.
