The Rocket Drive-In opened May 27, 1966 with Warren Beatty in “Promise Her Anything” & Dana Andrews in “Town Tamer”. The car capacity was listed at 500, had a small playground for the children below the screen. The theatre closed after the 1975 season lasting a short 10 years. Owner was given as as T.R. Marshall. It has since been demolished and a public school has been built on the site.

Does anyone have any old photos of the Rocket Drive-in? Andress is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer and several alumni are interested in the old place.

if it did close in 75 it was sold to bill vickers of elpaso i work for him in 78 or 79 i think he closed in 1980 then sold it became a nice trailer park now it is empty and for sale
This opened on May 27th, 1966. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
The property is still sitting vacant and for sale.
According to his El Paso Times obituary, U. A. Kane, who also built the Rocket in Las Cruces NM, owned El Paso’s Rocket and Bronco drive-ins. Kane lived in El Paso for 20 years and died there in 1985.
As of August 2022 there is a public school on the property.
