A small local cinema showing second run films. The Pavilion Cinema was a tin hut type construction, with a wood lining inside, and a metal roof. It opened on 6th November 1912.
It was fitted with a BTH sound system in 1930. CinemaScope was fitted in the mid-1950’s, when the proscenium was 24 feet wide.
The Pavilion Cinema was closed on 22nd November 1984, and was converted into a bingo club. In 1991 it became a snooker club, which closed in December 1991. Later plans were proposed to demolish the building and construct housing on the site and it was demolished on 11th April 1996.

The Pavilion was a bit unusual in that it used rear projection, ie the projector was behind the (translucent) screen. The film would have had to be loaded back-to-front but obviously this was taken care of!
