Sean, you’re quite correct. My grandfather (Bill Woodward) was the manager at the time and I went there to see a film with my parents in 1963 (Lancelot and Guinevere). After that he had to find another job. He ended up in the Treasurer’s department at the council offices.

Last film was screened 20th April 1963 ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ with the cinema going over to bingo following that.

Films throughout 1960s were advertised in Cinemascope so previous comment on that may be incorrect.

This cinema was on High Street, High Street had no junction with Forge Road.

1938 saw the cinema with 1100 seats at 6d to 1/3d and fitted with a R.C.A. sound system with 2 changes of programme per week at prices of 6d to 1/3d.
