Opened circa 1920 and sponsored both by miners' salary deductions and by the management of the nearby Great Mountain Colliery. The building consisted of a hall, institute and cinema.
It was closed in 1977, and the building was later passed to the Llannon Community Council in 1977, for community use. The local library is housed in the building.
