Located in Cross Hands, near to Llanelli. The Capitol Cinema was operating prior to 1937. In that year, it was listed as being operated by Chris & Jack Evans. The cinema had a 22 feet wide proscenium and a 22 feet deep stage, which was used for occasional variety performances.
The Capitol Cinema was closed in the late-1950’s, and was converted into a factory manufacturing television sets. It was destroyed by a fire in June 1975 and the remains were demolished.

According to the Kinematograph Year Book 1931, the Capitol was using sound-on-disk; and the proprietor and manager was Chris Evans.
In KYB 1942 the sound is RCA and Jack Evans has joined Chris; the capacity is 650; the proscenium is 22ft wide, the stage 14ft deep with 6 dressing rooms. KYB 1947 information is the same.
In KYB 1954 the proprietors are The Capitol Cinema (Cross Hands) Ltd; and the seating has fallen drastically to 400. The screen is 20ft by 14ft. Bizarrely, the proscenium has shrunk by 2ft to 20ft and the stage is still 14ft deep (14ft again?). I think some of the numerical data is garbled in KYB 1954!
In the London Gazette of 16 September 1966 (pp 10086/7), The Capitol Cinema (Cross Hands) Ltd was in a list of companies to be deleted from the Register at Companies House, as no longer trading.
This cinema was run by Chris and Jack Evans before the war. It was equipped with Lewiphone sound system. Designed and built by a radio and television pioneer from Narbeth, Pembs. There is an interesting display in Narbeth Museum on this man and his business. The only other cinema I have found so equipped was the Tivoli, Gowerton. Chris and Jack Evans also leased the Lido Gorseinon from around 1937 until around 1946. The Capitol was re-equipped with RCA sound in 1946 maybe as a result of the use of RCA at the Lido, whilst operated by these two brothers.
I should have said that the Capitol Cross Hands is listed under Llanelly in the KYB!
