I seem to remember this theater changing hands a few times and closing down randomly for months at a time. Maybe it didn’t. Does anyone remember?

I know I saw other movies there, but my earliest memory of attending this theater was to see “Contact” (1996) with Jodie Foster. I think I also saw “Antz” (1998) there.

I haven’t been there in years, but it’s actually a decent theater. Do they still have the “island” concession stand? If so, I always thought that was weird.

This place is located on the end of a big strip mall that sits across from North Point Mall. I remember the strip used to have a MediaPlay store in it that was hugely popular (that is, until a BestBuy opened down the street sometime around 2001 or 2002 and presumably stole MediaPlay’s customer base). A lot of people used to walk in between the MediaPlay and the theater while waiting for rides from friends and parents. I think the MediaPlay eventually closed sometime in 2003. I wonder if it affected this theater’s business at all.

Dick’s Sporting Goods now occupies the former MediaPlay space.
