Rivest, you are right. I looked at the Post archives and the movie directory and ads show The Shadow playing in this market, in DTS exclusively, no mention of 70mm. However, it was/is a special format so I wasn’t that far off the mark. :P :)

Had a look at the July 1st. 1994 listings in the Washington Times, No mention of any special format, however it may had used the DTS sound system. There was no 70mm prints for “The Shadow” per https://www.in70mm.com/presents/1963_blow_up/year/1994/index.htm

If this is the same National Amusement Centreville, I could’ve sworn I posted seeing The Shadow here in 70mm or some special format. It was the only booking in 70mm and I remember my friends and I, who worked at Hechts, snuck out of work and high tailed it here to make it for a Sunday afternoon show. The movie sucked. And I remember one of my friends mimicking the shadow’s signature laugh all the way home for choosing to see this movie being so bad. LOL.

Will always be my main, go to theater. It’s just less than 2 miles from my house, and is a 3 minute driving distance and 20 minute walking distance from it.

I have been here consistently since 2008 and have seen over 145 films there. It is starting to get out of date as the reclining seats have shown their age from the mid 2010s, but they are still fairly comfortable. Screen quality is decent at best, and the 5.1 sound system has a nice kick to it, but is otherwise on par with an average multiplex theater system.

Could use another renovation, but the Cinemark Centreville 12 is a solid enough theater and is most populated during the weekends. Horror films and family films especially play to huge crowds there. I will always be happy to have this as my main theater.
