At the time of it’s opening on February 12,1976…the NEW CENTRE CINEMAS was a three screen cinema with a seating capacity of 1,008 under Charlotte based Stewart and Everett Theatres. At the time of it’s opening Stewart and Everett operated all the indoor movie houses and drive-ins in the greater Wilmington area with the exception of the Manor Theatre Downtown Wilmington which was operated under Eastern Federal Corporation.

THE NEW CENTRE CINEMAS' largest auditorium had a seating capacity of 515. Auditorium Two had a seating capacity of 283 bringing the total of 725 seats. The smallest auditorium had a seating capacity of 210 bringing the total seating capacity of 1,008.

Stewart and Everett operated the New Centre Cinemas until 1986 when Carmike Cinemas took over as a acquisition of Stewart and Everett. Carmike Cinemas closed this theatre in 1995.

PICTURES COMING SOON…. The inside was renovated but outside it looks unchanged besides the deleated box office and the signage. If the marquee was put back people would surely think it was an operational theater.
