Opened 15 June 1936 with Top Hat. Replaced Hurst’s previous cinema which burned down in 1935. Irish premiere of Moby Dick held here in 1954 as it had been partially shot in the town.
The Regal youghal opened again on the 7th July 2018. Newly refurbished and renovated.
The Regal was converted to 3 screens in June 1997 and closed on 29 August 2010. Projectionist Michael Roche, who was 87 at the time, was reputed to be the oldest in Ireland.
This cinema has been bought. The new owners are re-opening it in April 2018
No change, empty and for sale.
A poster on the cinema asks for expressions of interest in the former cinema. Downtown Youghal has many empty premises, and the small department store there recently closed.
Cinema closed at the end of August 2010.
Cinema is to close this month. Unclear what happens to the building.
