this theatre is getting deeper into the indie film market with the departure of Sundance from the scene. In-depth article here.

This theatre may not be open too much longer. The parking lot outside its entrance has been sold for development and theatre patrons will not be allowed to park there. ?They are on a month to month lease as it is so the mall owners don’t see the theatre staying open without adequate parking. Status should also include: Movies (East Indian)
Currently only showing movies on 3 screens. Not completely digital yet.
Visited this theater today and watched “Secret Life of Walter Mitty”. What a neat little place! Was very clean and well kept. They were still running film, but presentation was quite good. Projectionist started film on-time and in-frame, sound was clear, cues were in proper place, and the print itself was in decent(not perfect) condition. I was quite pleased. I hope they can stick around. I want to thank the projectionist for the quick tour of the booth as well.
I just added an exterior picture of the entrance to this theater. There is no Google view because it is in the rear of the strip mall and faces a parking lot.
I saw “Lincoln” here today. Excellent film, good presentation, but a whole mess of platter scratches on the print. Talking to the staff, they said digital projection should be installed later this year. He seemed to think there would be no difficulty in financing the transition because they were owned by a larger corporation which had the resources.
Market Square is an absolute gem of a cinema, and I consider it to be “my theater” in Madison. It’s much nicer than your basic second run theater, with beautiful projections, comfy seats and quite large screening rooms. It has a minimalist look that stands in contrast to the multiplex nightmares that are the norm across town.
Unlike other theaters in town that start their showings late in order to blast mind-numbing ads in your face, Market Square plays classical music while you wait and always starts on time. I catch everything that seems even remotely interesting there, because of the $3 ticket prices and pleasurable setting.
I have added a photo of the lobby and refreshment stand.
Thanks again,trolley guy.
