The Richard Theater opened on April 7, 1920 with Miriam Cooper in “Should a Husband Forgive?” with seating given at 468. The Richard Theatre was an African-American theater that was owned by Alfred Eisman thru 1940 and then by Co-Op Theatres of Michigan.

The Richard Theater closed in 1959 and has since been demolished.
