Royal Theatre

There was a Royal Theatre, located at 14 N. Division Street, Grand Rapids, MI operated by A.J. Gillingham which had 175-seats and was opened by August 30, 1907. It was still open in March 1908.

The Royal Theatre opened on May 16, 1914 with seating listed at 602. In the 1930’s it was operated by B & J Theaters Inc. (short for E.C. Beatty & Allen Johnson). It was soon operated by W.S. Butterfield Theaters Inc. through to its closure on July 11, 1954 with Lucille Ball in “The Long, Long Trailer” & Victor Mature in “Dangerous Mission”.

It has since been demolished.

It appears that the Royal Theater opened on May 16, 1914. The “Cool” Royal Theatre closed after its second 20-year lease on July 11, 1954 with “The Long Long Trailer” and “Dangerous Mission.”
