Theatre Macon is located in the former Ritz Theatre site, that said, the old Ritz was completely gutted to make room for Theatre Macon. I don’t believe the Hummingbird was ever located in the old Ritz, it is actually located two doors down the street in the former Macon Billards Academy building. The Ritz was the only theatre on Cherry Street (the Main Street in downtown Macon) one of a half dozen theatres in Macon. I remember seeing a Randoph Scott movie on a Sunday afternoon in the early fifties.
Another date discrepancy with the Theatre Organ Database which lists a II/4 Robert Morton pipe organ installed at Macon’s Ritz Theatre in 1927. Maybe the theatre changed hands in 1930? Maybe the database is just wrong?
I live in Macon, but grew up in Augusta so not real familar with the old movie houses here. My best recollection from visiting here back then was that it ended up as a b movie grind house before closing due to tv onslaught. Other downtown houses were Bibb, Capitol(now a bar/concert hall), and Grand(now the Grand Opera House) which has plays and concerts.
