The Dixie Theatre opened in 1934 from what I found, seating was listed at 240. This was an African American Theatre. I could find no info on the owners/operators.

The theatre closed in 1955 and the building is still standing along the business section of E. Johnson Street. Any further information on the Dixie Theatre would be appreciated.

Put in the address listed above in Google Earth and the street view photos take you to a sad sad street. That might be the Dixie on the corner.

Streetview is on the wrong street, but the building must still be there. Probably one of the storefronts covered with ugly sheet metal.

Theatre was segregated. Bessie Smith played to a mixed race audience in 1932. The floor was sloped and remained so when it was converted to retail.
