M & R Theatre

The M & R Theatre was opened in 1947. Located on S. Redwood Highway (US 199) near the corner of Caves Highway. It was built for and operated by W.B. Roberts. The facade was in a locally manufactured pumice tile.

The building still stands in 2010, possibly in use as a workshop.

Any info or photos?

Why is it called a QUONSET Hut?

They were “invented” at the Davisville Naval Construction Battalion (=C.B.=Seabees get it?) Center, at QUONSET Point, Rhode Island. I landed and took off from the now closed U.S. Naval Air Station Quonset Point (now called Quonset State Airport).

Well, this Oregon Drive-in parked 300 cars as stated above in 1956 W.B.Roberts was running the place.

I can’t confirm the M&R theater statistics just yet. But there was an indoor theater named the Ivy at 297 Redwood Hwy., in town and is a quonset hut. I believe it closed around 1999 when the owner decided to focus on his other business ventures. It has been been Bi-Rite Auto parts for some time now and is under new ownership.
