KANSAS CITY, Mo. (December 19, 2003) — AMC Entertainment Inc. (AMEX:AEN), one of the world’s leading theatrical exhibition companies, announced today it has acquired three 16-screen megaplex theatres from MegaStar Cinemas, LLC. The theatres, located in the Atlanta and Minneapolis-St. Paul markets, feature stadium seating and were built since 2000
The MegaStar theatres acquired by AMC are the MegaStar 16 at the Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia, Ga.; the MegaStar 16 in Maple Grove, Minn. and the MegaStar Southdale Center 16 in Edina, Minn. Including the newly acquired theatres, AMC now operates nine theatres with 147 screens in the Atlanta area, and seven theatres with 83 screens in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
The 16-screen AMC cinema promises mega comfort; aside from the 16 stadium-seating auditoriums, the theater features two VIP suites. Similar to the skyboxes in sports arenas, patrons can host private screenings and catered parties.
A 66,319-square-foot MegaStar Cinema opened in May of 2001 at The Mall at Stonecrest. The 16-screen theater has 3,200 seats and two VIP suites. The glass-enclosed suites seat 16 people each, and are rented out. Local restaurants are allowed to cater to private parties.
AMC Theatres is opening its newest IMAX theater in metro Atlanta April 29.
AMC Stonecrest 16 has dedicated one of its 16 screens to the IMAX format, bringing the number of IMAX screens in metro Atlanta to six.
The IMAX® theater at AMC Stonecrest 16 in Lithonia has been custom-designed for a multiplex.
To maximize the field of view in the modified auditorium, the screen was replaced with a larger, slightly curved and specially treated IMAX screen positioned closer to the audience.
IMAX’s digital projection system combines two digital projectors with IMAX’s proprietary image enhancer and custom lenses to create an image with greater clarity, brightness and contrast. A proprietary sound system also cuts down on distortion.
Theater is now managed by new visions theaters
