The Odeon was opened on 17th February 1936 with Greta Garbo in "Anna Karenina". Originally planned as an independent cinema, it was taken over and opened as the Odeon, by Oscar Deutsch’s chain of Odeon Theatres Ltd.
The building was set back from the road, and had its own car park. Inside the auditorium, seating was provided for 708 in the stalls and 250 in the circle. The ceiling was in a mock wood panelled style, and had Art Deco style light fittings.
The Odeon was closed by the Rank Organisation on 1st July 1972. It was converted into a car showroom. It was demolished in August-October 1983, and a relief road was built over the site.
