Cinema South (closed)

Free standing theater built during a surge in theater construction. Opened in 1971 at US 27 and South Hanna Street, next to a discount department store, Mr. Wiggs. After it closed in 1983, it reopened on June 4, 1984 as an adult movie theatre but closed on September 4, 1984 by order of the courts. It was remodeled into a quasi-reception hall called Sunset Reception Hall.

The opening of this cinema was delayed until June 28th, 1972. Grand opening ad posted.

The owners were Cinecom in 1972, United Cinema in 1973, Mallers-Spirou 1977, Y & W Theatres 1981, Teicher theatres April 1983 (discount cinema) and closed in October 1983.

It reopened as an adult cinema on June 4th, 1984, and ordered closed at 6PM on September 4th, 1984, by Judge Thomas L. Ryan of the Allen Circuit court. Articles posted.
