Carmike took on the venue and closed it as the Latrobe Twin Cinemas following the January 14, 1999 screenings. It next became the Lonestar Cinema Grill launching September 14, 2001 with “Planet of the Apes,” “American Pie 2” and “Jurassic Park III.” It was a franchise of Cinema Grill Systems of Georgia and appears to have closed on August 30, 2003.
New Photos added 04-25-19. I have been going to this Cinema for years , 1st movie I saw there was “Die Hard”.The Laurel 30 Has been updated, the staff is very friendly and the food was surprisingly very good ..in fact it was excellent. The screening rooms are clean & comfortable. projection ,sound and screen size were all perfect .
Became a twin on December 15th, 1978. Ad posted.
The Laurel 30 Cinema opened during the week of December 23,1970 as a single screen with “Tora! Tora! Tora!”.

Anybody have any photos of what this theater looks like now?
Does it still have the “comedy” and “tragedy” mask drawing signs on either side of the marquee out front? (I remember seeing those mask drawings when I first saw Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope with my cousin there in 1977.)

In addition to my above comment, I also meant to say that my cousin, whom I referred to above (who commented on the Gem Theater in Derry as Canary No1), told me the Laurel 30 Twin has been renovated and reopened – they still show first-run movies – and one of the amenities is that waitresses will come to your seat and take your order for food and drinks, as many modern-day theaters have begun doing.
She didn’t tell me if the Laurel 30 is continuing under that name or if it has a new identity (I don’t doubt it’s now independently owned). I will pass along more info once I get it.
I saw the original Star Wars (Episode IV – A New Hope) for the very first time with my cousin at this theater on Wednesday, August 10, 1977, at 3:30 P.M. (how’s that for accuracy?). I was then 15 and visiting my relatives for a week; every time I see this original Star Wars again those pleasant memories come back of seeing it at the Laurel 30.
Now, whenever I’m in the mood to see Star Wars again (I have the DVD box set of the original trilogy), I have to see it undisturbed (I plug my headset into the TV to hear it in stereo and without any outside interference, for example). The memory of first seeing it at the Laurel 30, to me, is too sacred to have it cheapened by any disturbances.
I sorta thought most all of these single screens I got on were Multi-plexed to death.Lol.
