The Midway Drive-In opened March 27, 1948 with John Garfield in “Body and Soul” & the documentary “Thunderbolt”. Car capacity was listed at 850 cars. The last owner of this ozoner was Cactus Theatres.
The drive-in closed in 1979 and has since been demolished. The site is now a storage facility.

Since I grew up near Grant and Country Club, this was the drive-in we went to the most often when I was a kid. Films I remember seeing here include FORBIDDEN PLANET, ANGRY RED PLANET, BORN FREE, and (much later) WILD IN THE STREETS.
This opened on March 27th, 1948. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
Boxoffice, Jan. 3, 1977: “Two (Tucson) drive-ins, the Midway and Prince have closed. The owner, Cactus Corp., theatre division, has sold the Midway to P.F. West, a local development firm, for conversion to business use. The Prince is on the selling block.”
Opened with “Body and soul” and “Thunderbolt”.
