Premier Picture House

The Premier Picture House was located at the corner of Albert Road and Cooper Street. It opened on 14th June 1915 with “The Jewel of Fate”. It had a 35 feet wide proscenium, the stage was 10 feet deep and there was one dressing room.

Taken over by Cheshire County Cinemas chain in the 1950’s, it was closed on February 15, 1960 with Rita Hayworth in “The Lady from Shanghai” & Ruth Roman in “5 Steps to Danger”. It later became a motor cycle shop.

On 20th June 2001, it was opened as ‘The Premier’ as part of the J.D. Wetherspoon chain of pubs.

The Premier closed on Saturday February 13th 1960 with a revival bill of Lady From Shanghai/Five Steps to Danger. The following Saturday the Regal also closed leaving Widnes with just the Empire and the Plaza for the rest of the sixties.
