Clinton Theatre

The Clinton Theatre opened on April 24, 1916 in a building which was built in 1884 as a skating rink. It closed on December 20, 1924 due to competition from the newly opened Strand Theatre. The final show was "The Flaming Forties" starring Harry Carey and an "Our Gang" comedy.

The building burned to the ground on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1928 in a fire which also destroyed the Plattsburgh Theatre next door. The Clinton Theatre was insured for $18,000. Eight years later the Champlain Theatre was built on the site.
