Correction – “Everything i have is yours”.
Opened on 19/6/1963 with “Everything i have is yourd” and “Apache war smoke”. 550 cars. Closed in 1992.
July 9th, 1965 La Presse ad in the photo section. It is in French.
Wouldn’t you know it now a housing development, and they named the new road “Drive-In Way”, somtimes I think they do this to tease us Drive-In lovers. I think if it is going to be redeveloped they should do it without a trace of there ever being a Drive-In Theater there.
Drive-ins were banned in 1948 in Quebec until 1969. The first ones opened in 1970. I uploaded an ad from Le Canada Français from St. Jean Sur Richelieu, which explains why it is in French.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 6 Honey Mooers Road, Champlain, NY 12919.
Technically, the drive-in is in the town of Champlain, 12919.
I grew up across the road from the drive-in and remember going there twice- the first time was late 1970s was when I was 5 or 6 to watch a cartoon feature in my parents car and the second time (mid 1980s) my brother and some friends climbed through the woods(no car obviously) and lied down front to watch some movie. I can’t imagine more than 300 cars in the space. The property is now an unofficial trailer park- luckily the trees around the property mask this from passers-by.
I have noticed different numbers on cars in several Drive-ins.Most WAY off.My source was 1956 Motion Picture Almanac.
Opened June 19, 1953-~2000? Can anyone verify the exact dates?
More info and photos are always welcome.
An article in the Plattsburgh Press-Republican dated May 7, 1981 regarding the reopening here states that it holds 550 cars. An advertisement in the same paper from June 2, 1976, when the drive-in was offered for sale, claims it holds 650 cars. I must admit I have no personal knowledge.
Maybe one figure used VW’s and the other station wagons. (LOL)
I’ve seen this listed in the town of Champlain rather than Chazy. Mapping the address on Google works in both towns.
It parked 300 cars in 1956 and was owned by Don Wilson,Gregg.
