The Ellen Theatre was opened in 1911. On May 19, 1917 it was renamed Strand Theatre, operating with live performances. By 1925 it began its career as a movie theatre. On March 29, 1942 it reopened and was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary Tracy Barham. It was last operated by Intermountain Theatres when it closed in 1961.
It has since been demolished.

The NRHP nomination form for the Provo Downtown Historic District says that this theater was built by John B. Ashton and opened as the Ellen Theatre in 1911. It was renamed the Strand in 1917.
This reopened as Strand on May 19th, 1917. Grand opening ad posted.
Was there two separate Strand theatres? The first one was renamed from Ellen on May 19th, 1917 and closed in 1935 and the 2nd strand opened on March 29th, 1942 and closed in 1952.
