Famous Players opened the Prince Rupert Cinemas on April 8, 1982. Seating is listed at 933. The theatre closed for a period of time in 1997 due to a projectionist’s strike.

Cineplex Odeon took over operations in 2005. The theatre features first run attractions. Seating is listed at #1-251, #2-370.#3-312. This was the last of the three theatres in Prince Rupert still in operation. (The Capitol Theater and the Totem Theater, both operated by Famous Players, were previously closed.) It was closed on June 15, 2025.

According to the PDF article supplied by Mike Rivest (on page 5), the Prince Rupert Cinemas opened on April 8, 1982.

Cineplex announced it will sell this theatre in April 2025. This theatre was officially shuttered on June 15, 2025. Final films played were The Karate Kid and Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning. It was the only Cineplex theatre in this city.

Then there’s the Tillicum Twin Theatres.
