The Rocket Drive-In was in Samson, Alabama. One of two drive-ins in this town, it was owned by J.R. Pate and held 250 cars.

Approx. location for this drive-in was the SE corner of Alabama 87 & County Road 16. Some ramps though barely visible are still there.

The screen is hidden by the overgrown woods and concession/projection foundation are also still there.

Ralph Pate’s Rocket Drive-In was about four miles west of town on Highway 12, according to an item noting its recent opening in the October 23, 1954, issue of Boxoffice. I don’t believe the designation Highway 12 is used anymore, though. Pate was also the owner of the Royal Theatre in Samson.

Found It!

The drive-in was located at 16130 AL-52, Kinston, AL 36453. It was on the north side of the road and can clearly be seen in a 1965 aerial photo.

Today, a Revels Store sits on part of the property along with a private residence. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining.
