Located in the small town of Woodville, Mississippi the Fern Theatre was opened on May 30, 1938 with Tony Martin in “Kentucky Moonshine”. Seating was provided for 500, with 350-seats in the orchestra and 150-seats in the balcony for African-Americans. It continued until at least 1950. Later renamed Joy Theatre, it was the main spot in that region for movies. It was owned by Associated Theatres out of New Orleans. R.J. Callen managed the circuit and booked for the small chain.

Not demolished, at least as of 2014. It’s on the south side of Main, 700 block. White plastered brick with 4 weird ‘spikes’ on the front. A scar is just visible where the marquee is missing. Looks long abandoned, marquee was already gone by 1981 when the state did a historic survey.
The Fern Theatre was built on the site of a Planters Mercantile garage, and opened its doors on May 30, 1938 with Tony Martin in “Kentucky Moonshine” along with an unnamed comedy and a newsreel, featuring Motiograph projection and an original capacity of 500 seats (with 350 seats in the orchestra pit and 150 in the balcony for colored patrons).
