This biulding is now (September 2011) the Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum of San Marcos, focusing on the former president’s years spent as a student at what is now Texas State University - San Marcos. According to the local tourist information centre, and a chap at the museum, this used to be the Hays cinema (named after Texas Ranger Jack B. Hays). It was renamed the Palace Theatre and closed in the early/mid-1970’s, becoming a gold and silver exchange before the present museum. No trace of the cinema remains inside.

This is the new Palace opened in 1965 or 66. Owned by Zimmerman Theaters, an independent. I was a projectionist in the Palace and Holiday while in college.
The old Palace was torn down in 1967. Marque moved to new palace site on square. Former names of this site were Hays and Texas. Hays showed Spanish language movies in late 50,s. Old Palace was built in early 1900s as live house.
