The first movie I remember seeing here (Victory) was Disney’s “Fantasia” in 1947 (a reissue). I don’t think it was in stereo, as only about 9 theatres nationwide were equipped with that equipment.
The CINEMA in Greensboro was one of two theatres in the state of North Carolina that was equipped with SENSURROUND stereo for it’s December 21,1974 showing of “EARTHQUAKE!”. The other theatre was at Raleigh’s State Theatre.
August 1st, 1942 ad uploaded here.
Steve McQueen in THE GETAWAY played here first-run around Christmas of 1972 to capacity crowds.
Francis Ford Coppula’s THE GODFATHER played here first-run on March 22,1972 at the Cinema Theatre.
