Capitol Cinema still standing 2011

Located in Thurles, County Tipperary. The Capitol Cinema was opened on 7th February 1949. Seating was provided for 1,108, with 900 in the stalls and 208 in the balcony. It was operated by Capitol & Provincial Cinemas Ltd. of Dublin.

The Capitol Cinema was later tripled, and was closed down in 2009 due to new cinema opening in the new shopping centre.

Capitol opened 7 February 1949, the first Question Time for Radio Eirann was broadcast from here the following week. Seating for 1,100 (208 balcony, 500 parterre and 400 front of parterre). Suitable for stage shows. Architect William Dwyer. Proprietors Capitol Cinemas directors Mr P. Farrell and Mr P. McGrath.
