This opened on July 3rd, 1945 despite the building restriction due to the war. Grand opening ad posted.

Any photos of this theater? I only remember seeing the re-issue of the Columbia serial THE BATMAN (they were cashing-in on the popularity of the TV show in the 1960s) and of seeing DEEP THROAT (upon my 18th birthday in 1972 … it was my first porno film) there. I’m sure I’ve forgotten much more entertaining fare there but memory is sometimes sketchy.

7720 Hampton Boulevard is now a Blockbuster Video store. I don’t know if it is the same building that housed the theater or not. As a post-war theater, it could have been built back from the street as part of a small shopping center, which is what the current building is.

The ad reads Sewells Point Road, which is now Little Creek Road.

Owners:

1945 Hofheimer Circuit. 1950-1961 Weinberg’s Virginia Theaters. 1964 Weinberg’s Virginia Theaters & Rome Theatres, Inc. 1967.Hofheimer Theatres of Norfolk, Virginia, R. P. Lewis, General Manager, they had 5 theatres in Virginia & Rome Theatres. 1969-1975 Rome Theatres of Balitomore, Maryland, H. Paul Rome, President, they had 11 theatres in Maryland & Virginia.

I saw “THE MUSIC MAN” here and went back in about 1990 and without an address I think I went into the building and at that time it was a Drug Store.

CT could use photos, past and present. inside and out, and more info.

I believe the Boulevard Theatre operated later than 1975. I remember when I was in college in 1978, it was showing adult films. I remember the titles on the marquee, because a group of us drove past it and laughed at the titles – “Hot Date” and “Lively Lover”.
