I think this was originally part of the Jerry Lewis cinema chain and opened in the early 70’s. It was a tiny place.
My hometown. My home theater. First movie I ever saw was at this location. It was a re release of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I saw so many great movies here growing up. I remember the line to get into Empire Strikes Back was all the way up to the front doors of the Montgomery Wards that is now a Schewel’s. I truly miss this theater.
The last film to screen there was Major Payne.
I see that the Plaza Cinema is listed as closed but I should point out that it has also been demolished. The corner of the shopping center where it was located is empty now.
July 7, 1971 Grand Opening ad with Patton in Mash in photos. Rebrand - grand opening ad as a Jerry Lewis Cinema on July 14, 1972 with “Play it Again, Sam” also in ads. Rebranded to Plaza Cinema with “Westworld” on December 27, 1973 and closed as a discount house on May 25, 1995 with “Billy Madison.”
Once operated by R/C Theatres.
