The Palace Theatre was opened on March 25, 1946 with Claudette Colbert in “Guest Wife”. It was operated by Pitts' Theaters Inc. It was closed in September 1963.
It was purchased by Leggett’s Department Store and was demolished in November 1964 to build their new department store on the site.

The Palace Theatre opened its doors as a 919-seat single-screener on March 25, 1946 with Claudette Colbert in “Guest Wife” along with the technicolor short “America The Beautiful”, and closed in September 1963.
Leggett’s Department Store purchased the Palace building at 157 North Main Street in 1963 and razed the former theater November of 1964 for its new store
