Damn :(
Why did this theater close?
Glad I got to see a couple of movies here before it closed (Priscilla and The Holdovers). Used to go there often until the new Cinemark opened in Western Branch. No longer the moviegoing experience it once was. I was surprised it stayed open as long as it did after making the Regal hit list a year ago (it was supposed to close in February 2023). Another victim of streaming and the pandemic (which led to Regal bankruptcy). Always sad to see movie theaters close.
I have contacted AMC abt maybe going in this spot
TheaterDude, that would be fantastic. AMC seems to be on more stable footing than Regal. With a little refurbishment it could be a good moviegoing experience again. It’s a longshot, but it doesn’t hurt to try.
I feel like Cinema Cafe would move in to the old Regal if they close down the whole mall Greenbrier Cinema Cafes in
Cinema Cafe had crossed my mind since they had taken over the 4 screen Regal in the mall. Didn’t realize the mall situation was quite so dire there (hadn’t been there in quite a few years), but they’re all dying. It seems malls killed downtowns and now Amazon is killing the malls.
Sometimes I take a walk through Chesapeake Square Mall when I got to the Cinemark and it’s almost like a ghost mall now with one whole end shut down and half the stores in the other shuttered (although apparently there are redevelopment plans). I’m really sad about Pembroke and Military Circle considering how long they had been around.
The last film screened there was Wonka.
How do we know that?
Showtime listings on the day of closure, my guess is that Wonka had the latest showtime at the theater before it closed.
