This was the only twin drive-in theater in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area, and some sources say that it was the first twin drive-in theater on the East Coast, although that needs to be verified. It opened on June 5, 1968 as the Twin Drive-In, with one screen called the ‘Surf’ screen, and the other called the ‘Sand’ screen. Later, the name was changed to Surf and Sand Drive-In. This drive-in theater was closed in 1982 and has been demolished, and the land is now condominiums and an office park.
