Soon after the Tulsa World Newspaper vacated its offices on W. 3rd Street the building was renovated to become the (first) Rialto Theatre, located next door to the (first) Orpheum (AKA-Empress, Rialto) Theatre. The Rialto Theatre opened on March 14, 1918 with William Farnum in “When a Man Sees Red”. It operated at this site until approximately 1923, then was razed to make way for a new Kress dime store.
Once the Rialto Theatre closed at this location, and the New Orpheum Theatre was constructed over on 4th Street, the (first) Orpheum Theatre changed its name by moving Rialto Theatre signage next door.
Due to the fact that Tulsa had two Rialto Theatres and two Orpheum Theatres history is a bit confusing, but if you know more then please add it here.
