This theater was actually called the Towers Theatre, as it was located next to Towers Mall in Roanoke. It has been demolished, and a newer shopping center was put in its place.
As a kid in the mid 70’s, I have fond memories of a program at Towers Theatre that offered summer kid movies for only 10 cents per movie, once a week morning shows. Movies such as Hello Down There, Support Your Local Sheriff!, The Shakiest Gun in the West, and The Reluctant Astronaut. I miss those days, along with Mt. Vernon Elementary School.
The ABC Towers theatre opened on December 22nd, 1970, featuring an Ultra-Vision screen. An expansion opened on December 25th, 1974, adding its second screen. Grand opening ads with picture posted.
3rd screen opened on September 30th, 1983, by splitting up the 1974 expansion. Another ad posted.
Closed by Regal in 1998 after its conversion into first-run movies failed against the two Carmikes.
